Description
Very nice carte view of an unidentified officer with the 47th New York Infantry. I initially suspected this to be Major Frank Butts of the 47th, and while the resemblance is certainly evident, I cannot say for certain that this is in fact him. He gives the appearance of a very distinguished officer sporting this magnificent uniform including a great coat with a massive cape. A McDowell pattern cap rests on the banister with the numeral “47” clearly visible within the hunting horn infantry insignia. This could very well be Frank, it does however need more research. Back marked out of New York.
