Carte view of an unidentified Federal lieutenant. Dressed in his frock with his shoulder bar just visible. Just above the top button of the coat, a small shield id badge is pinned. A small bar is also pinned to the breast of his coat indicating his rank as lieutenant. These were sometimes worn by officers later in the war to conceal their rank on the field. No back mark on this one.
