Description
Full standing portrait of this unidentified Zouave officer, presumed to be a member of the famed 165th New York Infantry. Better known as the Duryee’s Zouaves, the regiment became well known for their flamboyant uniforms and battlefield valor. The officers were however, more moderately uniformed. The officer here stands dressed in a long frock with the skirt extending below the knee. Additionally, he sports a pair of Zouave gaiters while holding a Chasseur pattern cap. A near identical view of Abraham Mills of the 165th is attached for comparison. This one is back marked out of New York.
