Description
Really neat unused Civil War envelope featuring an advertisement for the portable writing case invented by George Hathaway in 1861. The case was comprised of 12 wooden slats secured on a tarred canvas backing surrounding a tin cylinder and then you would just roll it up for minimal storage. All of your pen, pencils and bottle of ink were stored inside the desk. This envelope depicts a scene of an officer seated in camp using the desk while writing a letter. I’ve sold a few of these desks over the years and this would make a great companion piece. You couldn’t ask for better condition as well. Great letter cover!
