Description
This is a pair of discharges for two of the three Vanderslice brothers of Pennsylvania. Brothers, Andrew, Charles and George would all enlist for the war effort. Andrew and Charles would both muster with the 95th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. George would muster with the 213th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. In a cruel twist of fate, brothers Andrew and Charles would both lose their lives on the same day in sperate battles. Andrew would be killed in action on May 12 while fighting at Spotsylvania. Charles who had been wounded on May 5th during the fighting at the Wilderness would succumb to his wounds on May 12th as well. George would be the only brother to survive of the three, receiving a discharge in November, 1865. These two discharges are for Charles and George. Charles would re-enlist in December of 1863 receiving a discharge for his re-enlistment before his death on May 12 of the following year. Andrew would serve a mere 3 months before his death and would not receive a discharge on account of his death. One of the many sad stories as a result of the war.
