Description
Large format discharge for Private Willard T. Bennett of the 167th Ohio National Guard. Willard would muster with Company G in mid May of 1864. The regiment would be raised from the 61st and 65th Battalions to serve for the period of 100 days. They would be immediately dispatched to West Virginia arriving at Camp Piatt and Gauley bridge. The regiment would perform guard duty protecting government stores and accompanying trains to and from the main bodies of Federal forces. Willard would be mustered out of service that September at Hamilton, Ohio. This is one of the larger discharges measuring 16″ x 13″. It is mounted in a frame and ready to hang on the wall. Overall it measures 20″ x 16″.
