Description

Vignette portrait identified as Oliver Donner of the 15th Ohio Infantry. Oliver would muster with the regiment in August, 1861 with the rank of corporal. Serving for the entire duration of the war and then some, he would receive promotions to sergeant, 1st sergeant, and lastly, to 2nd lieutenant. Attached to the Army of the Ohio and the Army of the Cumberland, the regiment would participate in the major Western Theater campaigns. They would fight at Shiloh, Corinth, Stones River, the Tullahoma Campaign, Chickamauga, Orchard Knob and Missionary Ridge at well as Kennesaw Mountain and both Franklin and Nashville. Oliver would be wounded at Kennesaw Mountain on June 21, 1864. He would be discharged in November of 1865. While this image itself is not identified, two other known views of Oliver confirm that identity. This view dates to his time holding the rank of sergeant. No back mark on this one.
