Description
Carte view identified as Corporal Edward C. Knuth of the 48th Wisconsin Infantry. Edward would muster with “E” Company in February of 1865, serving until discharged in December of that year. The regiment would leave the state in March 1865 for St. Louis, Missouri, and later moved to operations and post duties in Kansas. There they would guard mail routes, railroad lines, and government trains against Native American threats on the frontier. Edward presented this example to fellow company mate and corporal, Orimel J. Patterson. Orimel would serve alongside Edward for the duration of their service. The reverse of the card bears a period pencil inscription reading, “Edward C. Knuth to O. J. Patternson”. Back marked out of Milwaukee.
