Description
Carte view of a medical steward with the 13th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. Dressed in a frock with medical steward chevrons visible on the upper arm of both sleeves. His green medical steward sash is also worn around the waist. He holds his cap in his hand with infantry insignia shown and the numeral “13” visible on top of the cap. Back marked out of New Haven, Connecticut, this would identify the subject as a member of the 13th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. An old id on the reverse identifies the subject as “Uncle Lon Hall”. There are a total of 8 men with the last name of “Hall” serving with the 13th Connecticut including one man by the name of Leonidas R. Hall. None of those men appear to have served as a hospital steward. The only steward I could locate in the regiment was William Bishop so this one is a bit of a mystery that could use further research. Regardless we don’t see hospital stewards very often.
