Description
Early war, sixth plate ambrotype of an unidentified member of the 1st Regiment of Virginia Volunteers. Seated pose of this Virginian, he displays the grey frock with buff white cross belts and buff white waist belt associated with the regiment. An unmarked rectangular brass clipped corner belt plate can be seen worn on the belt as well. Attached to the Army of Virginia, they would first see combat during the 1st Battle of Bull Run. They would subsequently see action at such places as The Seven Days, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Cold Harbor, Five Forks and a handful of others. Some mat rubs to the emulsion on this one but otherwise a nice image of one of the very first units raised for the Confederacy. Housed in a full leatherette case.
