Description
Stellar sixth plate tintype of this unidentified Rhode Island infantryman. Standing pose, he sports the classic, Rhode Island blouse. Additionally, he wears a pair of grey trousers and a black cap. The distinctive uniform marks him as a member of Col. Ambrose E. Burnside’s, 1st Regiment Rhode Island Detached Militia photographed sometime in 1861. A 3-month regiment, they would be organized in April of 1861 in Rhode Island before heading to Washington and participating in the First Battle of Bull Run. This Rhode Islander stands with his musket at his side and an outstanding flag draped from a bamboo pole propped up behind the man. Great image from a well documented regiment! Housed in a full leatherette case.
