Description
Carte view of this Civil War soldier who unfortunately gave his arm for the cause. Dressed in a military jacket, one arm is propped against the pedestal at his side while the sleeve of the other arm hangs limp at his side. The arm appears to have been lost at the shoulder. This is most likely a member of the 71st Ohio Infantry. Back marked out of Troy, Ohio, the 71st Ohio Infantry would be raised here during the later part of 1861 and early 1862. From an album containing members of the Kerr and Kessler family, although I could find no match by that name in the 71st.
