Description

Very nice signed carte view of Captain Thomas Hoskinson. Commissioned a 1st lieutenant with “E” Company in September, 1861, he would be promoted to captain, effective March 1, 1863. The following September, Thomas would resign to take a commission as captain and commissary with the US Volunteers Commissary Dept. The 58th would certainly see no shortage of fighting over the course of their enlistment with a number major campaigns to their credit. This view shows Thomas striking a rather regal pose with his hand tucked into the fold of his jacket. The reverse bears a period ink signature reading “Yours Truly T. J. Hoskinson”. Back marked out of Erie, Pennsylvania.
