Description

Vignette carte view identified as Captain Timothy Sullivan of the 54th Ohio Infantry. Sullivan would be commissioned a 1st lieutenant with Company F in September, 1861. His promotion to captain would come the following April, serving with the regiment until his discharge in November, 1864. The 54th would amass a phenomenal battle record. They would fight in 21 major engagements. From Shiloh to Bentonville and everywhere between! This view shows Sullivan wearing his rank of captain. A very faint, period pencil signature on the reverse reads “Capt. Sullivan Co. F. 54 O.V.I.”. No back mark on this one but one hell of a hard fighting unit!
