Corporal John Woolard 115th Illinois Infantry

$650

Item No. HA5884RD Category

Description

Sixth plate ruby ambrotype identified as John Woolard of the 115th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. John would muster with “F” Company in August, 1862. The regiment would waste no time in heading to the front. They would tale part in the Tullahoma Campaign, Chattanooga Campaign and the Atlanta Campaign. In total, they would fight in over a dozen major engagements and numerous other minor skirmishes. During that time, John would be promoted from a private to corporal. A rank which he held until his discharge in June, 1865. He is shown here dressed in his infantry frock and wearing his corporals rank. A complete set of leather accouterments are worn while gripping his musket. A ninth plate pre-war ambrotype of John also accompanies the image as well as his obituary. The obituary itself contains numerous mistakes. They have incorrectly listed his name as “James Woodlard”, and yet right below his name they list his fathers last name as “Woolard”. This one does come housed in a full patriotic leatherette case with a repaired spine.
