Description
Stellar carte view of this Federal officer posed in front of a regimental flag. Profile view of this officer wearing the rank of 1st lieutenant and resting his saber on the shoulder. This guy certainly looks like he has been through some hard campaigning! Directly behind the man is a very large regimental flag. Unfortunately I am unable to make out any lettering on the flag. Presumably he served as an officer with the 137th New York Infantry. This view is marked along the front bottom out of Binghamton, New York where the 137th was raised. There are several other known views attributed to the 137th New York photographed in front of this flag as well. A canceled tax stamp on the reverse would indicate the image was likely taken at wars end. Rare and exceptional carte view!
