Description
Exceptionally rare sixth plate tintype of this unidentified African-American female subject. This beautiful young lady sits dressed in this exquisite white hoop skirt. She is unusually well dressed for the time period, draped in jewelry, lace gloves and large tassels which hang from her hair. Even more interesting, she is posed in front of the Beaufort, South Carolina back drop. Perhaps one of the many former slaves freed by occupying Federal forces who made her way into the camp, but that would not explain her very elaborate dress. She obliviously appears to be someone of significant influence to be dressed in such a manner. This one is a bit dark but extremely rare content!. Housed in a full leatherette case.
