Description
Wonderful sixth plate ambrotype of an early war Federal infantryman prepared for his marching orders. Photographed during the colder months, he is shown dressed in his infantry great coat and cape. His cap is worn with a brass numeral “1” pinned to the front. The leather from his brand new accouterments can be seen glistening in the light of the studio. A leather strap runs diagonally across his chest for a haversack which is resting under his arm and visible if the mat is removed. A rigid knapsack is strapped to his back with a superb view of his US Army issue blanket rolled up and strapped down to the top of the box. This is a really great view of this blanket with the horizontal dark brown stripe which ran down the edge of the blanket plainly visible. Probably one of the best views of this soldiers staple I have seen. Great looking image! Housed in a full leatherette case.
