Item No. HA8911MF Category

Description

Sixth plate tintype of a Federal infantryman suffering from a case of Vitiligo. This is the first time I have ever seen this in period photography. Dressed in an infantry frock and forage cap, his hand hangs over the edge of the table exposing the loss of pigmentation on his hand. Vitiligo causes your skin to lose color or pigmentation creating smooth white or light areas and generally effects the hands. You can clearly see the loss of pigmentation on the one hand. The other hand does exhibit it also to a lesser degree. Almost certainly the only example you will ever find! This does have some condition issues to the emulsion. Housed in a half leatherette case.
