Description
Superb carte view of three identified members of the 147th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. Identified as Napoleon Manny, Louis Sigo and Edward Lottinville, the trio of men would join “K” Company during the first months of 1865. Seated to the left is Edward with Louis seated to the right and Napoleon standing at center. This is a great character study of the enlisted soldier in the field. Each man holds a cigar between their fingers and none of the men wear the same uniform. Louis is sporting a pair a field made sergeants chevrons and NCO trousers. Written across the front bottom in period ink are the names “Edward Lottinville” to the left and “Louis Sigo” to the right. The reverse of the card bears a wonderful period ink inscription reading, “Napoleon Manny Co. K. 147th Ill Vol Infty Americus, GA. Oct. 16th, 1865″. All three men would muster with the regiment in February, 1865 and serve until January of 1866 when they would be discharged in Savannah, Georgia. No back mark on this one but what a great image!
