Description
Sixth plate tintype of an unidentified member of the 4th Virginia Infantry, “Liberty Hall Volunteers”. Wonderful view of this soldier dressed in the distinctive blouse worn by members of this unit. Wearing the unit’s grey wool blouse with a false pockets located on either side of the breast. Both the pockets and facing of the blouse were trimmed in black. There is a nice example located in the LOC of an identified soldier from this unit dressed in the blouse as well. These guys would take a hell of a beating during the war. They would lose 49% of the men engaged at Chancellorsville and another 50% in their next battle of Gettysburg. Super nice view. This one comes housed in a full leatherette case.
