Description
Quarter plate clear glass ambrotype in the horizonal format of two Federal infantryman. This is a rather unique view in that the two men were photographed from an elevated position rather than at ground level. A Federal officer, seated on a black mount, is positioned broadside to the camera. Dressed in an infantry frock with what appears to be the rank of a 2nd lieutenant, he sports a rain cover over his cap. Facing the opposite direction, a infantry private sits atop a white horse dressed in an infantry frock. This one does suffer some condition issues. Some discoloration effects the left side portion of the image. There is also some flaking to the image which you can see over on the right hand side. In addition, the photographer pressed a a piece of paper into the resin backing while it was still wet so that paper is stuck to the back of the image. Regardless, a very interesting image to two mounted soldiers. Housed in a full leatherette case.
