Description
Carte view of the famous Terrapin Tower which was located at Niagara Falls. Originally built in 1833 and reaching a height of approximately 45 feet, visitors would access the top of the tower through a spiral staircase located inside the structure. Interest in the tower would fade during the later part of the 19th century and it was finally blown to bits in 1873. This view depicts a rare winter scene with snow visible on top of the tower and all along the opposite shoreline. Trimmed corners and some paper loss to the reverse. No back mark.
