Description
Superb sixth plate tintype of this young officer and two ready-to-march infantryman. The officer can be seen casually seated in front and cradling a sword. In the rear stand two well dressed infantryman. Outfitted with rigid knapsacks, their rubberized bedrolls can be seen rolled up and strapped securely on top of the packs. M1851 eagle waist plates are worn as well. The two men are armed with extremely rare, 2-band P.S. Justice rifle’s in .58 caliber. Manufactured in Philadelphia between 1861 & 1862, the vast majority of these muskets were intended for Pennsylvania troops although a few did end up with other state militia units. This one comes with patriotic matting and housed in the scarce “Highland Chief” thermoplastic case. Some minor wear to this case but otherwise in near excellent condition. Wonderful well composed image!
