Description
Beautifully clear ninth plate ruby ambrotype of a Confederate infantryman giving the camera a steely eyed glare.. Dressed in a grey jacket with the collar trimmed in black. A row of large domed buttons line the front of the jacket. There is one button which lies under the mat that was not gilded over. It does appear to be a Virginia button but I am not 100% positive. Sporting a dark cap with brass letters ” C G” pinned to the front. Two large buttons are on either side of the cap and these do appear to be Virginia buttons as well. There were a number of regiments from Virginia with those initials unfortunately. Armed with his musket which he displays for the camera with the hammer cocked. Extremely clear image. So much so you can clearly see the weave of the jean cloth the jacket was made from. Housed in a full leatherette case. Super reb image.
