Private James Armstrong 24th Ohio Infantry at Lookout Mountain

$145

Item No. CV9113MF Category

Description

Carte view tentatively identified as private James Armstrong of the 24th Ohio Infantry. Dressed in a military jacket, a pencil notation across the bottom of the carte reads, “Private Armstrong – O.V.I.”. James would muster as a private with the 24th in June, 1861. In October of 1864, James would transfer into the 18th Ohio Infantry serving an additional year before mustering out with the regiment the following October. A period ink inscription on the reverse of the card reads, “Taken at Look Out Mountain April 25th, 1864.”. The 24th would be serving garrison duty at Chattanooga beginning in February, 1864 through June of that year so James certainly would have been in that vicinity at that time. No back mark on this one.
