Carte view identified as William Billett of the 1st Wisconsin Heavy Artillery. Very nice bust portrait of William who would muster as a private with Battery “E” in August, 1864. Batteries E through M would be organized during the late summer and fall of 1864 and would serve among the Washington Defenses. Battery E would be assigned to Fort O’Rourke until discharged in June of 1865. This view bears a wonderful period ink signature and inscription on the reverse reading, “Wm. Billett Whitewater, Wis.
