Description
Wonderful ninth plate ambrotype of this rebel dressed in an extensively trimmed battle shirt. This shirt appears to be a darker grey in color, with the collar, cuffs, pockets and face of the shirt trimmed in either black or red felt. In his hand is held a tubular object. It doesn’t appear to be a document but perhaps a document case, or something of that nature. The image was published in “More Confederate Faces” on page 119 and is tentatively identified in that book as “J. W. Davis, Army of Tenn.”. How that identification was made, I do not know as there is no id inside the case. Regardless a super reb image. This one comes housed in a near mint leatherette case as well.
