Description
Really neat outdoor carte view of a number of cavalryman and officers photographed in camp. There are a total of 10 men pictured of varying rank’s from line officers to NCO’s, privates and even a drummer boy! The group stands shoulder to shoulder lined up in front of a large wood walled tent with a massive canvas top. The drummer boy can be seen at the far left end with his leg up on his drum. The group of men are flanked by stacks of muskets on both ends. A period ink inscription on the reverse reads “Taken Dec. 2, 1863 Near Vienna, Va Rail Road Picket”. A little research may turn up which regiments were serving in that vicinity. Great view with a really cool inscription!
