Description
Extremely rare carte view of President Abraham Lincoln which is known as the “Penny Pose”. Lincoln would sit for this view in Matthew Brady’s Washington studio on Tuesday, February 9th, 1864. Taken just 3 days shy of his 55th birthday. Lincoln would pose for this and six other photographs that day, some of which were later used for the $5 bill and a number of postage stamps. This view is referred to as the “Penny Pose” as it was used as the profile view of Lincoln which is now on the 1 cent penny. One of the more sought after views of Lincoln and they are very hard to come by. This one is slightly trimmed along the top but is otherwise pristine. Extremely rare and desirable view!
