Description
Spectacular sixth plate, Neff’s Patent melainotype of this baby faced rebel soldier. This image surfaced out of an Austin, Texas estate back in early 2000. This image is without a doubt the highest quality and most well focused melainotype I have ever owned. This image is absolutely flawless! I can’t imagine this young soldier is much older than his mid teens. Dressed in this black frock coat with large white, bone buttons running down the front, which is typical in many images associated with the state of Texas. A large breast pocket is located to the right and left of the buttons while the collar is trimmed in a double row of white bands. I would say with almost absolute certainty that he did serve with the state of Texas. One wonders what became of this handsome soldier. Housed in a full leatherette case. Finest melainotype you will ever own!
