Description

Absolutely stunning quarter plate daguerreotype of two unknown members of the 7th New York State Militia. Absolutely beautiful! The 7th New York Militia was referred to as the “Silk Stocking Regiment” because it included so many members of New York’s social elite. Dressed in the grey New York uniform with black herringbone trim and buff white waist belts and cross belts. One of the men displays the shako worn by the regiment, which features the New York state emblem and the numeral “7”. This view would date to early to mid 1850’s. Beautiful view of this very storied and historic unit. There is a very good possibility that these two men went on to serve as officers during the Civil War. If you do not say “WOW” when you see this image in hand, I will give you your money back! Housed in a scarce “Sir Roger deCoverly and the Gypsies” full thermoplastic case with typical wear.
