Description
Beautiful sixth plate ruby ambrotype of this unidentified Virginia officer. Striking this very confident pose, he is photographed in a black frock coat with thin white shoulder straps. Presumably a lieutenant, large coat size Virginia buttons run down the front of the coat. At least two of those buttons are unquestionably Virginia buttons, with the third button down being a Mississippi button. A matching black cap is worn with the initials “R G” pinned to the front and flanked by laurels on either side. Unfortunately there are several regiments which share the initials of “R G” from the state of Virginia, making his regiment’s identity a bit challenging. Housed in a full leatherette case with a split spine.
