Description
Beautiful ninth plate ruby ambrotype portrait of this young lady bundled up for winter. She appears rather sad in this view with a face that bears no expression and rosy cheeks from the cold air. Her dark hair concealed under this rather elaborate bonnet which is trimmed in lace, flowers and two large and decorative streamers. A large cameo is worn which depicts a profile view of a female figure. A fur scarf is also worn draped over the shoulder which made from raccoon pelts. If you remove the mat, you can see that the pelts still retain the feet which are decorated with small metal bands. Really wonderful view. This example does come with patriotic matting and is housed in a full thermoplastic case.
