Description
Very nice carte view identified as Captain Moses R. Shalters of the 43rd Ohio Infantry. Moses would muster as a 1st lieutenant with “K” Company in November, 1861. He would receive his promotion to captain the following August. While serving with the 43rd, Moses would be involved in numerous battles to include New Madrid, Corinth, Resaca, Dallas, Kennesaw Mountain, Chattanooga and several others. He would eventually be discharged in December, 1864 without incident. The reverse bears a period inscription by Moses reading, “Go to Crew and have him send me 12 pictures of the card that I sat for, have them sent soon, some whol length and some only to the shoulder / MR Shalters “. Nice up close portrait of the captain with the albumen cut in a circular mount. No back mark on this one.
