Description
Sixth plate tintype of an unidentified member of the 13th New York Infantry known as the “Rochester Regiment”. Seated pose of this New Yorker dressed in the great coat and cap issued to the regiment. The coat is identified by the scalloped cuff trim which can be seen in this view as well as in the comparison view shown here. Additionally, the numeral “13” can be seen pinned to the front of the cap. Composed of eight companies from Rochester, one from Dansville and one from Brockport, the regiment was mustered into the U. S. service at Elmira. Mustering in for a two year term on April 25, 1861, the regiment saw intense combat as part of the Army of the Potomac, fighting in major engagements including the Peninsula Campaign, Second Bull Run, and Antietam. There are a considerable number of identified images from this regiment located on the HDS. A little research may be able to put a name to this long forgotten soldier. Housed in a full leatherette case.
