Description

Ninth plate ambrotype of an unidentified civilian male. Dressed in an all black silk suit with a white handkerchief hanging out of a breast pocket. This one is marked on the brass mat by photographer Charles Ebenezer Hawes of New Bedford, Massachusetts. Hawes was working in New Bedford as early as 1842, although this view dates closer to the mid 1850’s. Housed in a half leatherette case.
