Description
Early war, ninth plate ambrotype of this infantryman dressed in his greatcoat and cape. His cap is also worn with a large and prominent “D” pinned to the front of the cap. This one is identified inside the case in pencil as Colonel Ezra Walrath of the 12th New York Infantry. I am not a fan of this inscription for several reasons. This is definitely not Colonel Walrath. The two men look nothing alike. Secondly, this inscription is written in two different hands. Whether this was done purposely or just simply misidentified I do not know, but I can say with absolute certainty, this is not Colonel Ezra Walrath. The large company letter “D” is also incorrect. Now it is a really sharp looking image, however the identity is very much incorrect. Regardless a very nice image housed in a full leatherette case.
