Description
Absolutely outstanding albumen view of members from “D” Company of the 22nd Ohio Infantry. This view includes the entire company including the officers and band members. The men standing shoulder to shoulder armed with their muskets and sporting all manner of dress and head gear. Three officers are seen behind the men mounted on horseback. All of the officers are seen wearing tam o’ shanter’s as are a couple of the enlisted men. Organized at Benton Barrack’s in November of 1861, the regiment was initially designated the 13th Missouri despite the fact that most of the men from the regiment were Ohio natives. The following year they would be re-designated the 22nd Ohio Infantry. The regiment would be active with the Army of the Tennessee fighting at such places as Fort Donelson, Shiloh, Corinth, Iuka, Vicksburg and several others. A period ink id across the front bottom reads, “Company D. 22 reg. Ohio Vol. I.”. This one is matted and ready to be framed. Measures 10″ x 8 1/4″. Super nice albumen view!
