Description
Very well composed carte view of this unidentified Federal soldier. I would presume, likely from one of the militia companies raised in Philadelphia during the early summer of 1863. Dressed in a plain frock which is absent of any trim, he wears what appears to be a M1851 eagle waist belt while resting his hands on the pommel of the saber he has drawn in front of him. The reverse bears the initials “M F G” in period ink. Back marked out of Philadelphia. A simple but very nice looking image.
