Beautiful ninth plate ruby ambrotype! Probably a Western Theater cavalryman. He casually wears a four button sack coat over a heavy wool overshirt and a nice, big silk cravat. Wonderful head piece with this brimmed, black felt slouch cap. Around the waist he wears a M1851 eagle waist belt with a cap box just visible. Although not an artilleryman he’s headed into battle with two big cannons! He sports a pair of rare Remington-Beals Navy revolvers in .36 caliber. This is a wonderful, crystal clear image. Nary a scratch on this one either. It comes housed in a half leatherette case. Wonderful view of this revolver.
