Possible 102nd New York Infantry at Fairfax Station

$325

Item No. CV3921JR Category

Description

Exceptionally rare carte view of a Federal soldier photographed in Virginia and armed with a Plant Manufacturing Company, Third Model brass frame Army Revolver. Plant Manufacturing Company began making these Cup Fire revolvers in 1863, and ended up producing about 8000 of these revolvers in total. They originally began with a steel-framed version of the Army revolver, which was called the 1st Model. By serial number 700 or so, they had reached the Third model, which featured the brass frame which is what we see here. Additionally, this one is marked with a seldom seen back mark of Fairfax Station, Virginia. This subject may in fact be a member of the 102nd New York Infantry which wintered here to protect the Orange & Alexandria railroad. Great content with a great back mark!
