Description
Carte view of an unidentified member of the 164th New York Infantry known as the “Corcoran Guard”. Very nice view of the jacket worn by the regiment with the tombeaux clearly visible. They would see their first action at Deserted House, Virginia in 1863 followed by the Siege of Suffolk and Black Water. In May of 1864, they would take part in the Overland Campaign, fighting at such places as Spotsylvania, North Anna River, Cold Harbor, Petersburg and many others. The following year they would take part in the Appomattox Campaign. The regiment would suffer nearly 250 men killed in battle or due to disease and another 200 men wounded during their enlistment. This example is marked out of Buffalo, New York.
